Club Membership |
The Benefits |
We have a prosperous and growing membership of both adults and youth. The opportunity of becoming a member is not only offered to those who would like to get involved, but to those who would like to support us as club patrons. Membership runs on an annual basis for a small fee and runs from 1st November each year, but you can become a member at any time. It is important for insurance purposes that everyone involved with the club is a paid member.
|
Becoming a member comes with many advantages as well as learning and growing your skills in amateur dramatics...

JUNIORS |
SENIORS |
Our junior group is a large and thriving section of young players between the ages of 11 and 15. We often hold a series of youth nights which runs on a weekly basis at a specific time during the year. These evenings usually consist of drama related games, activities and workshops. Our junior group sometimes participate in the Caithness Music Festival and SCDA's annual One-Act Play Festival. Wick Junior Players even reached the Scottish Youth Final in 2018, this was a huge achievement for our community and a first for our youth group. The Festival is a great way for our young actors to learn and develop. The junior players are supported by our dedicated team of adult members who have a broad range of skills in amateur dramatics, passing on skills to the next generation.
|
Our active senior members are all either keen actors or willing volunteers backstage from age 16 onwards in one of our departments such as sound, lighting, costume or set design, or sometimes in front of the curtain as part of our dedicated Front of House team. Often taking part in SCDA's annual One-Act Play Festival, there is always something for everyone whether it be treading the boards, selling raffle tickets or organising our wardrobe. We sometimes hold social events and script readings for our members which is a great way for members to get together or to welcome new people. Our AGM, which is held each October, is a great way of expressing your interest to the club, and learning a little bit about what goes on.

BRINGING EVERYONE TOGETHER
Of course, the combined talent of both our junior and senior members are brought together at Christmas time where we aim to stage our main show of the year, which on alternate years is a pantomime. Our subsequent pantomimes are very much anticipated by the people in our community and our active members. Pantomime has been a tradition here in Wick since 1951... and we love it! Your help and support plays a vital part in the running of Wick Players, whether your skills be helpful in the likes of wardrobe, set design, sound, treading the boards, as a patron or as someone in the audience.
Expectations
We have a wide range of talent, skill and strength among our members and we value everyone's contributions equally.
While we appreciate that not everyone is able to devote the same amount of time to the club, there is an expectation that those involved in events and / or productions will be respectful towards their fellow members and offer to help out in some various areas where required.
Examples of this could be transportation of materials to and from venues, tidying up and providing general support where required.
We're all volunteers and are a part of the club to partake in something which we enjoy... drama!

Safeguarding is at the heart of the Wick Players, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all our youth members.
We have a number of policies and procedures in place which is all overseen by our designated Safeguarding Officer whose role is to act as the main contact within the club for the protection of children, to ensure that all persons tutoring children are fully aware of their responsibilities and to be the first point of contact for members on any issues concerning the wellbeing of children in the club. For any enquiries or concerns relating to the safeguarding of our junior members, you can do so by emailing [email protected]. |
